Project Highlight: Edmonton Labour of Love
We knew we were biting off a lot when we booked this job. Complete with a self-contained drainage system, bunkers, and breaks of all sorts. The design was inspiring and exciting to work on something unique on such a great property.
The homeowner’s taste and construction knowledge meant only the best would do. We started by mapping out each contour, then brought in the highest‑quality synthetic turf and materials to match the homeowner’s standards. With so many breaks, low spots, and bunkers, proper water management had to be a top priority in Canada’s freeze‑thaw conditions.
An American company originally did the design, so they had planned to drain the water from the bunkers through PVC and into the pond. Because of the dust and dirt in our snow and sheer volume, we decided to drain everything into a gravity drain instead. For this, we hand-dug past the frost line and tarped off the sides, filling the hole with drainage rock.
As with most landscaping construction, what you do not see matters. A ton of work went into ensuring everything drained correctly, and there would be no hidden surprises later. It is more work, but we try never to have nails in our putting greens. Those who care enough to get the Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear synthetic greens also care enough to notice poor ball roll and bounce from a nail head.
We couldn’t be happier with how this course turned out. It’s a true test of skill and beauty, and our team is proud to bring this level of craftsmanship to Western Canada.
